Google Steps Up Lobbying Efforts

Mar 28, 2006

An article in the New York Times highlights the fact that Google is investing more heavily in D.C. lobbying. Podesta Mattoon and DCI Group are among the firms that Google has hired in its attempt to build relationships with members of both major political parties.

They are reported to be spending in excess of $500,000 this year, which is significantly less than their close competitor Yahoo, and a fraction of what Microsoft spends each year. Yet it's a sign that Google is committed to becoming a key player in the political arena.

No doubt the investment is spurred by recent interest in issues like censorship in China and Net Neutrality that have ramifications for Google.
