China Steps Up Monitoring of Blogs

The Micro Persuasion blog points to a Xinhua news article about efforts by the Chinese government to control the content of blogs and search engines in China.

According to the article, there are over 36 million blogs and 97 million search users (and growing) in China, and the government launched a plan in February of this year to "purify the environment of Internet and mobile communication network through a series of measures within a year." Those measures included the creation of standards and regulations for bloggers and other content publishers.
