Brain Drain or Brain Circulation?

Aug 30, 2006

As part of its Newsmakers series, News.com published a Q & A today with the Dean of UC Berkeley's School of Information, AnnaLee Saxenian. The interview focuses on Saxenian's research on the "circulation of ideas in the global technology," which she wrote about in a recent book called "The New Argonauts."

Specifically, she discusses how U.S.-educated engineers from countries like China, India and Israel have learned and worked in Silicon Valley, and then taken that knowledge back to their home countries to "cross-pollinate cultures and industries." And how this cycle has impacted U.S. workers and companies. To Saxenian, it isn't the brain drain that some people suggest it is.
