MySpace, YouTube Try to Curb Copyright Violations
Oct 30, 2006
In separate news stories today, MySpace and YouTube are taking steps to remove unauthorized copyright-protected material from their sites.
First, a Reuters article in Yahoo! News states that MySpace has licensed technology from a company called Gracenote that will prevent MySpace members from uploading music clips to their member profiles if those clips are protected by copyright. And, according to Reuters, MySpace will delete the accounts of members who repeatedly attempt to upload music in violation of this policy.
YouTube is also continuing its policy of removing unauthorized videos from its site. As reported by CNNMoney.com, YouTube is "removing copyrighted material from cable network Comedy Central, including episodes of "South Park"...as well as "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report."
