Supreme Court to Hear New Patent Case

News.com's Anne Broache writes about a patent case going before the U.S. Supreme Court tomorrow that could have a far-reaching impact on the high-tech industry. While the case itself focuses on a patent dispute involving a vehicle gas pedal, the core issue is how courts determine whether or not "an invention is too 'obvious' to warrant protection."

According to News.com, Cisco, Intel and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (on behalf of the open source software community) are among those that have submitted briefs in tomorrow's case, in the hopes of convincing the Supreme Court to revise the standard for obviousness.  For the full story, read the News.com article.
