Taiwan's Move Beyond Contract Manufacturing

According to a Reuters article in Yahoo! News, electronics manfacturers like Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola and Nokia are not only looking to Taiwanese companies to assemble their products - Taiwan is increasingly becoming a source of design expertise as well as it strives to be more competitive. In fact, a JP Morgan analyst is quoted as saying that "over 80 percent of the world's notebook computer design is outsourced to Taiwan" (the article also states that over 50 percent of Dell's notebooks are designed on the island).
