Microsoft vs. ATT Patent Case Goes Before Supreme Court
Feb 21, 2007
The Supreme Court heard arguments today in the Microsoft vs. AT&T patent case, which centers on a dispute over whether or not Microsoft used voice recording technology patented by AT&T in copies of Windows that were sold overseas. A decision is expected by June and, if the court rules in AT&T's favor, some of Microsoft's supporters fear that U.S. software companies may move their research operations overseas to avoid further legal disputes. For its part, AT&T contends that its intellectual property will be weakened if the court rules in Microsoft's favor.
According to an article about the case in Forbes.com, the Court's ruling "could have wide effects on the amount consumers pay for computer software and other intellectual property licensed overseas."
