Viacom Demands YouTube Remove Clips
Feb 2, 2007
Reuters is reporting that Viacom has demanded that Google remove all of Viacom's clips from YouTube -- an estimated 100,000 videos. According to the report in Yahoo! News, Viacom claims that "its pirated programs on YouTube generate about 1.2 billion video streams."
The parent company of popular media brands like MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, VH1 and BET, Viacom owns the rights to TV shows like "South Park," "Daily Show" and "Colbert Report."
As this October 2006 article from AdWeek indicates, Viacom and YouTube have been trying to come to agreement for some time over this issue (see this October blog post as well).
