EMI Takes the Plunge with iTunes

Record company EMI announced that it will make its entire music catalog - minus any Beatles songs -available on iTunes without digital rights management (DRM) protections. Starting this May, iTunes users will be able to purchase EMI songs for 99 cents each that include Apple's FairPlay DRM, or they can choose to buy a premium version of the same song for $1.29 that has better sound quality and is DRM-free.

The question now is which (and when) other record labels will follow suit? Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who was on hand for EMI's press conference in London, vowed to "reach out to all the major and independent labels to give them the same opportunity." Read more at News.com here.
