Supreme Court Rules in Patent Cases
Apr 30, 2007
According to The Wall Street Journal (sub required), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in two patent infringement cases today, in both cases reversing "the Federal Circuit on major questions of U.S. patent policy."
First, in the Microsoft v. AT&T case, the Supreme Court ruled 7-1 in Microsoft's favor, stating that the software giant "doesn't owe AT&T Corp. patent royalties on software contained on foreign produced and sold computers" (see this blog post from February for background).
The Journal reports that the high court also "reversed a lower appeals court test for when a patent is too obvious to warrant protection under federal law" in KSR International v. Teleflex Inc. case (see this November post for details).
