FTC Urges Caution on Net Neutrality
Jun 27, 2007
The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Internet Access Task Force released a report yesterday called Broadband Connectivity Competition Policy that summarized the findings of its February 2007 workshop on the topic and outlined a series of "suggested guiding principles" that address the very contentious topic of net neutrality.
The FTC urged caution, recommending that "policy makers should be wary of calls for network neutrality regulation." Reaction has been swift, and as The Wall Street Journal (sub required) reports today, not surprisingly, the FTC's report is welcome news to telecom and cable providers like Verizon and Comcast who oppose net neutrality, while net neutrality advocates like Google and Amazon.com continue to call for Congress and the Federal Communications Commission to enact net neutrality legislation.
A PDF of the FTC's 170-page report is available here, and includes arguments on both side of the NN debate.
