YouTube's UK Music Deal

According to a Reuters report in News.com, Google-owned YouTube has signed a deal with MCPS-PRS, a British organization that represents composers, publishers and songwriters. While the financial terms were not disclosed, YouTube paid a flat fee to allow its users to legally include music by MCPS-PRS members in videos they post on the site. More info is available here.

At the 463 blog, Sean Garrett wrote yesterday about another royalty-related issue: Hollywood's upcoming contract negotiations with the Writers Guild of America (as well as the Screen Actors Guild and Directors Guild). The unions are expected to make "new media" residuals an issue in their contract discussions with the film studios.
