How India is Outsourcing Outsourcing

The New York Times takes a look at how leaders in the Indian outsourcing market like Infosys and Tata Consultancy Service are themselves outsourcing work to countries outside of India, and even hiring American workers in the process. As the NYT explains, a number of factors are contributing to the trend, including "rising wages and a stronger currency [in India], demands for workers who speak languages other than English, and competition from countries looking to emulate India's success as a back office -- including China, Morocco and Mexico."

So, while most outsourcing work contracted to Indian firms is still done in India by Indian employees, it's no longer a given. One Infosys senior vice president quoted in the article believes the future of outsourcing is "to take the work from any part of the world and do it in any part of the world." Which is why Indian firms are opening offices in cities around the world, including Atlanta and Phoenix. The article also describes a training program that takes American graduates to India for six months of hands-on programming experience. For more, check out the full Times article here.
