FCC Bans Exclusive Cable Agreements in Apartments

Oct 31, 2007

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) held an open meeting this morning in which it unanimously approved a rule prohibiting cable operators from continuing exclusive agreements with apartment buildings. Up until now, cable companies have been able to sign deals with apartment complexes that limit residents to one provider for cable television. The move is designed to provide greater choice and more competitive prices for apartment dwellers by allowing telecom providers like AT&T and Verizon to sell digital video along with phone and Internet services.
