Peer-to-Patent's Progress Report

Nov 5, 2007

Things seem to be going well at Peer-to-Patent, the Wikipedia-style pilot program designed to get community input on patent applications filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

IBM, Microsoft, Intel, HP, Sun, Yahoo and Red Hat are among the companies that have volunteered to submit patent applications for review and, according to data released earlier today, over 1,600 people have signed up to be reviewers since the project's launch on June 15th.

So far, those reviewers have cited 93 instances of prior art on 17 applications, and there are currently a dozen active applications being considered. Peer-to-Patent has also garnered attention from around the world, as evidenced by the fact that more than 29,000 people from 71 different countries have visited the site.
