Sprint and Clearwire Nix WiMax Deal

Nov 9, 2007

The Wall Street Journal (sub required) is reporting that Sprint and Clearwire are ending their agreement to develop a nationwide WiMax network together. At least for now.

The companies each announced significant investments last year to roll-out the high-speed wireless technology in the U.S. In July, they decided to join forces to create a network that would reach 100 million people by the end of 2008. But, according to the Journal, they "couldn't resolve the complexities of the transaction and couldn't reach agreement on the terms of the deal."

Both companies reportedly remain committed to WiMax, and there's a possibility that they'll revisit the idea of a partnership once Sprint names a new CEO to replace Gary Forsee.
