Rep. Markey's Second Life Speech

Dec 12, 2007

Rep. Ed Markey (D-CA), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet and chair of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, spoke at the United Nations' climate change conference in Bali, Indonesia today. But instead of making the trip from D.C., he opted to "appear" via Second Life.

Using an avatar of himself to deliver remarks to the Bali Summit, Rep. Markey told the audience that it may be his "first foray into Second Life, but it won't be [his] last."  Other politicos whose avatars have given speeches in Second Life include former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Virginia Governor Mark Warner.
