Sprint's CEO(s) and XOHM

Dec 20, 2007

It's only been a couple of days since Sprint Nextel's announcement that Daniel Hesse has taken over as the telco's new CEO. But the Associated Press is reporting that former chief exec Gary Forsee, who resigned in October amid concerns about Sprint's financial performance, has officially landed his next gig.

Forsee will turn to university life as president of the University of Missouri's four college campuses. He is himself a graduate of the UM system and has been a member of its board of trustees.

Hesse, an industry veteran who most recently served as CEO at Embarq before working at Sprint and AT&T Wireless, has been tasked with improving Sprint's customer service and "building shareholder value." Which leaves open questions about the company's future investment in its XOHM-branded WiMax service.

According to Computerworld, a company spokesman said that Sprint will "not report on plans for XOHM and other initiatives until sometime early next year," and at least one industry analyst who was interviewed believes XOHM is a make-or-break proposition for the company.
