The Tech Policy Smackdown (Sans the Smackdown)
Oct 31, 2008
As you may have heard, New America Foundation and WIRED planned a debate yesterday that had been advertised as "McCain v. Obama: The Technology Policy Smackdown." Unfortunately, at the last minute, McCain campaign advisor Douglas Holtz-Eakin was unable to participate, leaving moderator Nicholas Thompson and Obama advisor Reed Hundt to discuss the issues on their own.
I know firsthand what it's like to plan an event and have a speaker cancel at the last minute (for event producers, it's the stuff nightmares are made of). It happens more often that you may realize though, and you just need to roll with the punches. Which is what New America did.
The "debate" went on, with former FCC chairman Hundt fielding questions from Mr. Thompson, who is both a New America fellow and a WIRED writer. You can watch video of their conversation in the Media Vault.
