National Cyber Security Awareness Month
Oct 12, 2009
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month in the U.S., and a number of government agencies and industry trade groups have developed tools and resources to help consumers protect themselves online.
Here are three places to start if you're looking for cyber security tips:
- StaySafeOnline.org: The home of the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), Stay Safe Online is a comprehensive site that features special sections geared toward kids, teachers and small business owners in addition to its general consumer info. You can also find out more about the NCSA, which represents McAfee, Microsoft, Symantec, Cisco, SAIC and EMC.
- OnGuardOnline.gov: A partnership of several federal agencies and nonprofit groups, this site maintained by the Federal Trade Commission features fact sheets, videos and games that address everything from identity theft and phishing to protecting kids' privacy and laptop security.
- DHS.gov/cyber: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has also created a list of other cyber security resources as part of its involvement in promoting National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
